Practical Guidance
Sprinkler Head Classification: Revit sprinkler families must be mapped to IfcFireSuppressionTerminal in IFC export. The default mapping often produces IfcBuildingElementProxy. Configure the category mapping in the IFC Export Setup before the first submission.
Alarm Device Classification: Smoke detectors, heat detectors, and manual call points map to IfcAlarm. Alarm panels map to IfcController or IfcDistributionControlElement depending on the receiving software's interpretation.
Fire Compartment Data: IFC IfcZone elements can represent fire compartments. Compartment boundaries, fire ratings, and travel distances should be included in the IFC submission for regulatory review tools that perform automated escape route analysis.
Suppression System Properties: Suppression system IFC files should include property sets for coverage area, activation temperature, response classification (standard, quick, extended), and water demand. These properties are required by some regulatory checking tools.
